The Lily Pad Thanks You

To all the local business men and women who have ever placed a carry-out order…
to every family who has gathered around our tables…
to the community members who have supported my efforts and become friends to me over the past ten years…
the Lily Pad, and I, would like to thank you.

When the Women’s Club of Caroline County approached me in 2006 to purchase the historic Women’s Club building on the corner of 2nd and Franklin Streets, I could not have begun to imagine what a life-changing, and personally enriching, venture I had taken on, or the tremendous source of pride it would become to me. I knew in my heart that the first priority of the restaurant would be to continue the Women’s Club’s legacy of providing a space where people could come together, to foster the sense of community that makes our town so great. This has certainly been the most rewarding aspect of my business, whether by providing a setting for special events, a venue for intimate weddings, or simply feeding my friends lunch every day, I have completely enjoyed being immersed in every aspect of owning this business, and the relationships I’ve built along the way.

Friday, May 30th was the Lily Pad Café’s last day of regular operation. We will, however, honor all events that are scheduled through the month of June. For those who know me, or have gotten to know me over the last ten years, you know that this is not a decision that I made lightly, but do know that it was a conscious choice. I do look forward to continuing my journey in the food service and hospitality industry, but I am moving along a different path right now…a path made richer by the experiences and relationships I have been blessed with through the operation of the Lily Pad Café.

Personally, I would like to thank all of my customers, especially the regulars, without whom my business would never have been a success.

I would like to thank my staff, especially Kristin for sticking by my side through the good, the bad and the ugly! I couldn’t have done it without you.

On a final note, I would like to thank the Women’s Club of Caroline County for opening the doors to this big adventure, and providing me with the opportunity of a lifetime.

I could never thank you all enough.

Sincerely,

Joann Redden
